Answers to the questions companies ask before deciding
Each of these pages answers one question and answers it straight away, without detours. They are the questions that come up most often in conversations — about ownership, about price, about what happens if something goes wrong, and about when a process has outgrown its spreadsheet.
How much does a custom application cost?
There is no standard price list for custom applications, because the price depends on the scope of work rather than on the number of users or applications. What matters most is how many processes the system should cover, how closely it has to match the way you work, and how much of the work you take on yourselves. You get a concrete figure after a short conversation in which the scope is defined.
Who owns the code a company commissions?
Source code written to a company’s order belongs to that company — that is how it works with AI BF. This is not a given: with commissioned development, ownership depends on the contract, and with cloud services the customer usually never owns the code at all and pays for access to someone else’s.
What happens to an application if the developer goes out of business?
The application keeps working if three conditions are met: the code is yours, the data is on your server, and access details are documented so that someone else can take over. With AI BF all three are part of the design, so if the developer ceases trading, development stops — but the system keeps running.
Spreadsheet or application — when is it time to switch?
A spreadsheet is the right choice as long as one person maintains it for one purpose. It is time for an application when several people edit the same file, when nobody is sure which version is the latest, or when someone compiles reports from spreadsheets by hand every month.
